The term cryptoleftists was coined by Joshua Dávila during the creation of the The Blockchain Socialist platform and the name of the original subreddit to create a space for those interested in the intersection of crypto and left politics. More specifically, the audience includes those with an interest in new forms of socio-economic collectivity using crypto mechanisms. The first project to be spun out of the community was Breadchain Cooperative, co-founded by Joshua and others in the community.
